When Blake Shelton announced his first ever residency at The Colosseum at
Caesar’s Palace, I just knew I had to buy a ticket, jump on a plane and hotfoot it
from England to Las Vegas! I’ve spent years waiting for a UK tour from Blake, so
it was time to bite the bullet and see him on his home turf.
I’d booked for the last night of the residency and boy, it did not disappoint. Kicking
off with his No.1 single with Post Malone, ‘Pour Me a Drink’, Blake played hit after
hit from his extensive back catalogue. Classic oldies like ‘Some Beach’ & ‘Austin’
were an absolute joy to finally hear live and were delivered with the enthusiasm
of brand new hits, not golden oldies. He followed his single ‘Texas’ with a stirring
cover of George Strait’s ‘All My Ex’s Live in Texas’ and the classic ‘Mountain Music’
by Alabama. My highlights of the night included a sublime performance of ‘Home’
with stunning visuals and the most incredible rendition of ‘God’s Country’ with
fiery backing vocals that made your spine tingle. Bringing out Gwen Stefani for
their two singles together was the real icing on the cake and delighted the fans
with the chemistry they oozed on the stage.
Blake remarked that he’d never played in Las Vegas before and was kind of
incredulous that he never had, chuckling as he sang. His affable personality is
infectious and his calibre as a performer at the top of his game. If I had any
grumbles, its only to complain that the concert had to end at all and my $39 glass
of wine, but that’s an entirely different review….
